Tip for Interpreting and Applying Assessment Data

INSIGHT: When teachers analyze national and state testing program data with their classroom data, they discover insights that remain hidden from teachers who continue to use traditional analyses.

EXAMPLE: By analyzing data about specific content standards and indicators rather than grade level equivalents, teachers get closer to the underlying causes of student performance. This leads to improvements in teaching practices that are aligned with both state and local standards and student needs.

I agree with your assessment of the situation. As I dialogue with teachers, it is evident that many feel it is necessary to complete a series of text rather than really looking at the performance of their students. when we present teachers with a curriculum with a timeline they tend to follow it regardless. we need to design instruction around the needs of the students making sure that we provide challenging activities for those who have demonstrated a strength in a particular area and intervention for those who need additional assistance.
